The Dallas-Fort Worth area in North Texas was blasted by violent thunder and hailstorms on June 13, 2012, damaging over 8000 vehicles and more than 3000 homes. Many businesses lost power during these storms, which were the worst hailstorms in the area in almost a decade. The areas in Dallas around NorthPark Center mall and the areas surrounding White Rock Lake were hit particularly hard by the baseball-sized hail, as well as Irving and Great Prairie. Fortunately, there were few injuries reported.
Hail storms are frequent in North Texas, and have remained a leading cause of property damage.
